Hey everyone!
The Lakme India Fashion Week 2015 kicked off on Wednesday in true ramp style. This event is the definitive fashion event in India and has given us and the rest of the world, the likes of Rohit Bahl. Gauri-Nainika, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani, Sabyasachi okay, I could just go on.
Put simply, every fashionista worth her staple Bottega clutch knows that the LIFW is the fashion temple in India. Last year, the event brought us a host of popular designers, new trends and some breakthrough makeup techniques. Staying true to their style, this year too, LIFW showed much promise on Day 1.
2015 marks 15 years of the Lakme Fashion Week here and the event kicked off with a gorgeous makeup show, the stars of which were Shradhha Kapoor and a real time makeup app launch by Lakme.
The event was curated by beauty expert at Lakme, Natasha Nischol . The theme in focus was “ Sculpt” keeping in line with this year’s focus on contours and sculpting, and featured variations in mosaic, clay, etching, paint and bronze while Shradhha played muse.
Collabs and Debuts –
Stellar Fashion Designer Sabyasachi opened the event this year and brought back the smooth glam of the seventies. The event was attended by the creme de la creme of Bollywood, which comes as no surprise considering most of these divas are often seen wearing statement Sabyasachi creations.
Deepika Padukone, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee and Sri Devi were the cynosure of all eyes as they arrived for the show. With 62 models and 105 outfits, Sabyasachi presented a show that had understated elegance, months of careful craftsmanship and exemplary attention-to-detail written all over it.
Drapes, gold, glitter and full skirts were the standard statements at the seventies-inspired show. Crop tops and flowy skirts , very boho-ish like the era itself made an appearance with pops of reds, oranges and yellow tones.
Deepika and Kalki Koechlin were both seen wearing Sabyasachi floral maxis to the event heralding the onset of Spring/Summer 2015.
These outfits were also in line with rest of the clothes showcased at the event (I mean, what better way to get your stuff really out there than by making Deepika Padukone wear them ? )
The collection resembled many of Zeenat Aman’s outfits of yesteryears with layered jumpsuits. palazzos, maxis and long, flowy capes with glitter and prints making a big comeback. Thankfully, the floral trend wasn’t overdone as is the case this season of the year.
Ashwariya Dhanush and Sri devi were also spotted in ethnic Sabyasachi wear.
All in all, Sabyasachi’s show was a fitting opening for the prestigious fashion festival. We’ll bring you guys all the action from each day at the festival soon.
Also, Gauri Khan is all slated to show off her collaboration with Satya Paul later this event. Watch this space for more!
What do you guys think of Sabyasachi’s collection this year ?
